According to the Oregon Rehabilitation Association, around 2,000 children and 1,000 adults with severe developmental disabilities are living in unsafe or unstable environments, waiting for care that they are likely to need for the rest of their lives.
Kerr’s programs are unique in Oregon, providing a wide range of care and skills training for children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. Many of these individuals will need intensive care for all of their lives. Each individual needs support to live the fullest and least restrictive life possible.
This year Kerr also provided 24-hour care in safe, stable group homes for 193 children and adults with developmental disabilities – a total of 70,445 days of care. Kerr’s Community Living, Supportive Living, Skills Training and Nursing Home Enhancement programs helped another 150 individuals. These programs are at 100% capacity throughout the year and always have a waiting list.
Group Homes for Adults provide 24-hour care for individuals who cannot care for themselves because of severe developmental disabilities, making it possible for them to enjoy a home environment.
Group Homes for Children provide 24-hour care and skills training for boys and girls who cannot care for themselves because of severe mental health needs and developmental disabilities.
Community Living programs help individuals develop skills so they may participate in the work force, join in community activities and pursue hobbies that enrich their lives. Skills Training & Supported Living programs help individuals with developmental disabilities improve their skills in personal care, cooking, shopping and other daily activities, creating more possibilities for independence in their lives.
