The first step to volunteering is to submit an application. You can expect a call or email from Community Relations Manager within 2 business days of receipt of your application.
From there, the process depends on your interests. If you are hoping to volunteer directly with the children and adults we serve, we will complete a thorough interview and screening process prior to your volunteering. If you would rather support Kerr by offering your professional services or expertise, helping in our offices, or donating time at a special event, we will conduct an abbreviated process appropriate to your position.
The screening process may include:
-
Interview
-
Reference checks
-
Verification of certificates, licenses, transcripts and registrations
-
Drug screen
-
Criminal history checks
-
Tuberculosis screening (annually)
-
Optional Hepatitis B vaccination
We offer comprehensive orientation and training dependent upon your position. This may include:
-
Orientation to Kerr
-
Orientation to the program in which you are volunteering
-
Ethics, Abuse Reporting, Confidentiality, Media, Client Rights and Sentinel Events, and HIPPA
-
Blood Borne Pathogens/Infection Control
-
Safety and Emergency Preparedness
-
Diversity
-
Family Perspectives
As a benefit to our volunteers, all additional training offered to paid staff is open to volunteers.
